In less than 24 hours from now Beth will be home. I will warn you that
there may not be a blog tomorrow night as the kids and I will be
reintroducing Beth to American culture. But fear not there will be more
to come. I have been pulled aside several times and received the mail
that there is a demand for more stories. This blog has a strong
following with new mothers, as a way to make them laugh to keep them
awake at 3 am.
I will not lie, today seemed to drag by, even getting the kids ready in the morning time seemed to stand still. They were both dressed and ready to head out the door by 6:45, we do not normally leave the house until 7. Since we had 15 minutes to kill, I asked Madison what she wanted to watch. She told me the news, but not the normal news she likes to watch the channel 12 weather news channel that plays elevator music and shows nothing but the forecast for all the major cities in Kansas. I have never seen any child more enamored by a very basic show. She even danced... very slowly to the background music.
Once I picked up the kids the guilt trip started on trying to convince/con/beg/manipulate me to take them to the pool. Madison does this thing now where if you tell her no to the initial request she asks again while gritting her teeth, if that doesn't work then a PLEEEEASSSSSE is used. And yes it is that drawn out, and in the sweetest voice and smile. It is kind of scary. I finally convinced them both that they would rather go the next time with mom. That bought Beth and I a few days.
Dinner was pretty uneventful, and so was the majority of the night. I could tell that both the kids were in "lets just get through the next day" mode.
Right before bed Mason asked me if his birthday will ever be around Christmas. I explained to him that his won't but Madison and mine are. To that response he broke down in a heart breaking cry, and in between tears and sniffles said "But I want to have my birthday that time one year so santa can bring me a birthday and Christmas gift!" (I would equate this request to girls with straight hair wanting curly hair and curly hair girls wanting straight. You want the opposite of reality.) Madison stopped jumping on her bed and told Mason that if he wants she would trade birthdays with him, if that will make him feel happy. He told her that it would... then the other foot fell for Madison's reason. "So I be 5 sooner daddy?!?!" Beth gets her fair share of difficult conversations but I seemed to have gotten stuck with 2 very curious kids that the logic in their mind makes more sense than reality. I told her it didn't work that way, but it was nice for her to offer to trade with Mason. Then we started the cycle of please through the teeth and elongated please.
Since there probably will not be a blog tomorrow night I made a video recapping the adventures of M&m since Beth went to the Pearl of Africa.
